Tyndall Assembly Concert 4: Wrap up

The final Tyndall Assembly concert for 2007 wrapped up last night with great performances and a good audience. My interstate re-mix collaboration with Jason Sweeney was played over the PA as the crowd settled into their seats, then Edward Kelly provided some sonic manipulations with a combination of live modular synthesis and resonant objects. After a brief intermission, a spirited performance of Alvin Lucier's I am sitting in a room (1970) brought the evening to fitting close as the piece essentially paid homage to the space which has been home to the Tyndall Assembly over the past four months. Special thanks to audience member Johnno for his memorable reading of I am sitting in a room. Some images are posted below and some more can be found at the Tyndall Assembly website. Unfortunately the audio set-up which was recording the concerts proceedings malfunctioned and regretfully there are no recordings available for posting.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Due to unforseen circumstances Tyndall Assembly concert 4 HAS BEEN POSTPHONED and re-scheduled for Thursday 11th October.

The programme and venue for the concert remains unchanged and any necessary additional details will be included in an amended press release to be posted later this week.

Providing opportunities for Adelaide sound artists, the Tyndall Assembly presents its final concert in its landmark 2007 experimental music series.

Concert #4 in the experimental electronic music series presents eclectic live performances from Edward Kelly and a collaboration between Jason Sweeney and Tristan Louth–Robins. The final concert in the 2007 series will also present Alvin Lucier's seminal electro-acoustic work I am sitting in a room (1970).

Edward Kelly is a local musician and electronic music composer working primarily in the fields of live electronics and sound art. Kelly will be use the modular synthesis software Plogue Bidule as an instrument to control captured sounds and generated noise in real-time. These sounds will be manipulated during the performance to create a contrast between meditative, ambient and chaotic atmospheres. www.littlevegtables.blogspot.com

Jason Sweeney & Tristan Louth-Robins present Work Pidgeons, a collaboration fostered over a hundreds of kilometers. The work is the result of a series of sonic transactions sent back and forth via email between Sweeney in Melbourne and Louth-Robins in Adelaide. Presented in its successive stages of evolution the composition Work Pidgeons takes its title from one of the original 'seed' audio samples of pidgeons whilst alluding to the metaphorical function of email technology as a 'carrier' of information. www.soundslikesweeney.com www.tristanlouthrobins.blogspot.com

Alvin Lucier's seminal electro-acoustic work I am sitting in a room (1970) incorporates human speech and a process of feedback in order to articulate the resonant frequencies of the performance space. Tyndall Assembly Concert 3: wrap-up

The third Tyndall Assembly concert on Thursday 30th August was another catagorical success, with a sizable crowd and warm reception to filmic presentations by Poppi Doser and Milkcrate as well as a performance from Darren Curtis and Al Steven. I am awaiting a handful of photos from people who took images on the night, so once I get hold of them they'll be posted here and the concerts page on the Tyndall Assembly website will be updated. I did get some video footage of Darren and Al's performance captured on my laptop, you can watch it on YouTube here.

The final concert of the 2007 season will be held on Thursday 27th September with performances by Edward Kelly, Jason Sweeney/myself and a special performance of Alvin Lucier's I am sitting in a room.

Tyndall Assembly Concert 2: wrap-up & images

Last night the second Tyndall Assembly concert of 2007 featured performances by Luke Harrald and Derek Pascoe, Hidden Village and Vinny Bhagat (with Kym Glyus.) At the categorically sold out concert, the audience was treated to Luke's new work fr@gment, Hidden Village's live breadboarding and mobile phone music and Vinny Bhagat's swells of tailored noise with projections by Kym Glyus. Concert 3 is on August 30th with works by Poppi Doser, Darren Curtis, Milkcrate and a 'special' performance of Alvin Lucier's seminal work I Am Sitting In A Room (1970).

Audio will be posted on the blog later today (when I've got a little more time.) :)

The first Tyndall Assembly concert of 2007 kicked off on a freezing Thursday night with a good crowd and warm reception. Sanad and Mycorrhiza performed some real-time electronic music, whilst myself and Seb Tomczak performed a new work of mine for rocks and digital delay (Sketches for Akio Suzuki.) Audio clips of the performances can be downloaded at the foot of this post.

The second Tyndall Assembly concert will be held on Thursday 26th July with Luke Harrald and Derek Pascoe, Hidden Village and Vinny Bhagat.

Experimental electronic music will be presented in the Tyndall Assembly concert series for 2007.

Existing underground since March 2006 the Tyndall Assembly now emerges for its second season of monthly sessions from June to September 2007.

The innovative series provides the opportunity for Adelaide artists and composers from diverse backgrounds to come together and perform experimental works in an intimate space.

Collaborating artists will reflect a broad aesthetic of the experimental arts including improvisation, installation, conventional concert situations and hybrid performance. Audiences will hear new works by local composers as well as important historical works by relevant composers.

Concert #1 of the 2007 Tyndall Assembly series presents:

Sanad – Live ambient soundtracks

Mychorriza – Audio/video noise theatre

Tristan Louth-Robins – Aucoustic explorations

The Tyndall Assembly concert series is curated by Tristan Louth-Robins an active sound engineer, creative consultant, sound artist, performer and writer, focused on experimental and new media art. Tristan is currently completing his Master of Music and lectures in Music Technology at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide.

The Tyndall Assembly will be back for another year with a season running from June to September.

In 2006, the Tyndall Assembly was a highly successful concert series held at Luke Altmann's Gallery Delacatessen, which gave local artists the opportunity to perform their works at a regular forum, where audiences were treated to a wide variety of experimental and electronic music. A total of nine concerts were staged between March to August, featuring performances by Hidden Village, Alex Mitchell, Christian Haines, Andrew Georg, Derek Pascoe, Patrick McCartney, The Glitch Collective and myself. Historic works by John Cage, Robert Ashley, Brian Eno and Alvin Lucier were also performed.

There is a call for new works by local Adelaide artists, composers and groups:

Please send a brief synopsis of your work, including a summary and any technical requirements for the performance (including what you can supply and any additional items you may need.) Please also specify a preference for when you wish to perform (see sidebar.)
